I Shall Never Tire Of The Beauty Of The Palms ~
* * * I embellish home decor items with seashells. Most treasures I've found at estate sales or on E-bay and the majority of the shells I use I've found on Florida's beaches, both coasts and on beaches of a few Caribbean Islands.
I had just started and did several shows in 2008 and with the encouragement of the creator of this site (thanks, RK!) began selling my creations at The Restless Native on Anna Maria Island and at Pheeney's at Madeira Beach.
I had to temporarily stop "shelling" all of 2009 as my family made several moves. One child off to her dream job in New York, one started at USF-Tampa and my spouse and I moved to Madison, Wisc. BBRRR!!! It is VERY cold here! We were lucky to find a deal on a condo in Sarasota to keep our toes in the sand. I can't wait to get back to SRQ in January, get into a few shows and fests and hopefully catch the eyes of those Snowbirds!
Call me crazy, but when I talk with shoppers and see that look of appreciation on their faces as they examine my creations, to me that's priceless! I don't even care if they don't buy!

UPDATE: Dec 1, 2009 : About this time last year I had to abandon my artsy-fartsy-ness because we learned my spouse's job was transfering us back to Madison, Wisconsin. Now, Madison is a nice place, but my heart is closer to the beach, in Florida! AND I'M FREEZING MY SHELLS OFF HERE IN WISC!!
I'm SO excited... As soon as January comes along I'll be in Sarasota and I'll jump back into creating my "sea shell stuff" again!
I can't wait to get into some "No White Tent" shows and creating again for the Restless Native on Anna Maria Island and Pheeneys in Madeira Beach!!

- Hey, I forgot to email you...I saw your work at Restless native the other day....it looked fantastic! Season is about to happen and I hear alot of rooms on Anna Maria Island are booked which is good news not just for Kim and us Restless Native peeps, but the island shows too. Hope to see you out there!

- Sherri was at the Historic Bradenton Beach event Saturday and then I went to talk to Kelly ( X St. Augustiner too )...and I'm contemplating it. We all did pretty good . Their Memorial Day is $75 and they close off the streets. I'm THINKING (but not KNOWING ) it is good event. Alot of nowhitetent's will be there.

- Hello J--the lady I sell with in Anna Maria takes consignment 40/60 split $20 ad fee every 3 months. She is looking for some artists right now --she's between seasons. It is a small shop in Anna Maria. It won't make you rich, but I got a toe in 2 years ago and I consider it a good income stream and it gets me custom business. If you're interested I'll give you her number.

- Hi Julie!!!! I loved stopping by to see your work. Its really pretty. I have to take updated photos of my jewelry. Actually, I need to make new items. I stopped "creating" for a while since I was spending alot more than I was making. But I am going to start up again and see how I would go about maybe getting into a salon or small boutique. - Hey Julie....you're on the right path! You know my first shows I was lucky to sell 2 things. If I look at what I do that works now...I just paid attention to what people said. ( I'd buy this if..NOT the I COULD DO THAT!) I also did different sizes ( does it fit in a suitcase? Can it be shipped? Would this sell larger?) And then I got a range of prices from $5-$75. This woman told me she made $3000 at the Cortez Fish Fest this year $3 at a time! SO I am always looking at scale, pricing and just keep hitting it. I also have found that people don't buy from you until they've seen you 3x. I don't know that this is true for EVERYONE..but I first noticed it when I was working with the Tiki carver. People usually bought something about the 3rd time they saw it. But...then ALL of this could be sort of IN MY HEAD!
Make sure to add some pics. Fill up the space. I'm using these to promote people on my journal and stylehive.com
Lets get it together and make 2009 A GREAT year.
Check out the post I made about the Bradenton Beach Fresh Market too. It is nearing the end of season, but these people are trying! And then there's the St. Pete show. I think I'll try it during the Summer.
